Menthol cigarettes are popular in Canada and Australia but were first introduced in the United States in the 1950s as an alternative for people who didn't like smoking or wanted something different from other cigarette brands. Menthol was first introduced in 1924 by the American Tobacco Company (ATC). They were sold under their Lucky Strike brand. It wasn’t until the 1950s that other popular companies began producing them.
